PRODUCTS: Nestorone®/Estradiol

is an ATD™ gel contraceptive that Antares is developing with The Population Council. This product is a unique contraceptive that is not active when administered orally and therefore well suited to the once daily application of our 24 hour, sustained release advanced transdermal gel which is delivered systemically. Adverse effects should also be minimal in comparison to standard oral contraceptives, which typically yield more precipitous “peak and trough” levels of drug in the bloodstream. Additionally, in comparison to the patch or traditional depot systems, adverse effects should be easier to reverse. Because Nestorone /Estradiol is not active when administered orally it is therefore appropriate for use when breastfeeding. Phase I trials were completed in December 2007 with Phase II planned to initiate mid 2008.
