Specialty Account Representative

Job Summary:

  • The focus of this position is to increase the prescribing of Otrexup and Xyosted within the assigned geography.
  • Successful Specialty Account Representatives effectively educate, influence and sell urologists, rheumatologists, and Primary Care Providers (PCP’s), along with their office staff, by presenting company-approved materials and maintaining a high level of knowledge of the condition and/or disease states along with the specifics of managed care insurance plans and state and federal payer programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivers company-approved data and science-driven sales presentations to rheumatologists, urologists, PCP’s, and their office staff
  • Utilize company provided segmentation data and other information to customize presentations to individual physicians
  • Possess the market, business and product knowledge to engage in productive sales calls
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of managed health care plans, as well as state and federal reimbursement policies, to ensure that access to Otrexup or Xyosted is not impeded
  • Educates nurses and reimbursement coordinators on the details of managed care plans and state and federal payer programs and handles any inquires they have on payers
  • Educates reimbursement coordinators and other staff on company reimbursement assistance programs and assists them in working through issues with these programs
  • Educates physicians and nurses on how to teach patients to self-inject
  • Educates physicians and staff on the Otrexup and Xyosted product label
  • Abides strictly to Antares policies
  • Assembles and delivers educational programs for physicians, staff, and other groups
  • Coordinates lunch and dinner speakers to educate physicians and staff
  • Maintains a product business relationship with local and state rheumatology and urology societies, and provides them with tools, resources, and information
  • Presents to and works with groups in medical systems in addition to calling on office-based practices
  • Works closely and collaboratively with National Account Manager (NAM) counterpart(s) to drive health plan formulary decisions and coordinate activities to increase prescribing in assigned territory
  • Enlists support and assistance of the NAM to address managed care reimbursement issues
  • Successfully facilitates change management within accounts.
  • Achieves quarterly and annual sales goals.

Desired Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two or more years of documented successful pharmaceutical representative experience required
  • Experience in selling to health care professionals specializing in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, low testosterone, and/or pain management is preferred
  • Small company experience in a commission-based sales environment is preferred
  • Two or more years of specialty sales experience is desirable
  • Hospital/institutional experience desirable • Product reimbursement experience desirable

Essential Position Functions and Requirements

  • Candidates must be able to successfully pass background, motor and drug screen investigations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
  • The ability to drive an automobile, as well as get in and out of a car multiple times per day, on daily basis
  • Ability to travel up to 95%, predominantly by car, and willing to travel overnight, if necessary
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Candidate will be required to lift and carry packages weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to conduct sales calls, build rapport, and make presentations to surgeons, physicians, nursing staff, hospital administration, payers, insurers, health-care providers, and others necessary to achieve territory sales objectives
  • Ability to effectively manage a large geographic territory assignment
