Staff Accountant - Minnetonka, MN

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for daily cash application, timely invoicing of accounts receivable, recording debt and investment activity, maintaining fixed assets and intangibles, preparation and posting of routine journal entries, monthly account reconciliations and general ledger account maintenance. Additionally, this position will perform other month-end and quarter-end close responsibilities, record foreign subsidiary transactions, and assist with other general accounting activities and special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Timely recording of cash and investment activities:
    • Post daily cash activity to clear outstanding checks and apply cash receipts.
    • Monitor, record and reconcile investment account activity.
    • Perform monthly reconciliations for all bank and investment accounts
  • Prepare customer sales quotes and invoices timely in accordance with contract terms
  • Record monthly debt activity and interest payments, prepare related monthly account reconciliations and ensure proper accounting classifications in accordance with GAAP.
  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system ensuring the proper forms, controls and procedures have been performed
  • Calculate and record monthly fixed asset depreciation and intangible asset amortization and maintain supporting schedules
  • Prepare other routine monthly journal entries, expense accruals, account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain assigned general ledger accounts and related schedules to support the preparation of financial statements and reports; ensure account balances are documented and auditable.
  • Record monthly transactions of foreign subsidiaries.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly internal control procedures to ensure the general ledger, trial balances and journal entry activity is complete, accurate, and properly approved.
  • Ensure data integrity and adherence to internal controls and documentation standards, including key SOX controls documentation.
  • Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Educational Requirements (degree, license, certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited university, or associates degree with significant relevant experience.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., H1-B status).

Years of Experience

  • At least one year of relevant accounting experience with strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Public company (small to mid-size) and/or public accounting (large firm) experience preferred.
  • Pharma, biotech, or medical device company experience a plus.
  • Strong background in general office information systems including accounting software, ERP and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
